The Mandan Independence Day Parade & Street Festival will attempt to set a record for the World Longest YMCA Dance. The attempt will take place at 10:00 a.m. on July 4th, 2012 on Main Street in Mandan, North Dakota. Parade co-chairs Dennis Friesz and Marlo Anderson stated that the committee will be ready to assist participants along Mandan's Main Street. The committee is also prepared to use "the strip" which intersects west Main Street in the event more space is needed.
"Y.M.C.A." is a song recorded by American group Village People. It was released in 1978 as the only single from the album Cruisin'. Mandan set a record for the world's longest chicken dance on July 4th, 2010. The World Record Academy officially verified the record on July 23, 2010. The chicken dance spanned 24 city blocks with a distance of 1.623 miles.
Mandan also set a record for the world's largest "Twist" on July 4th, 2011.
